:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Daniel Allen -- A straight forward short story, that moves forward with a fresh look at the Zombie apocalypse. : The action unravels quickly when the father breaks the bad news to his wife and the arrival of the grandparent knowledge, that all is to head for a safe haven. The action moves so fast, that the family has little time to prepare for the trip. CJ's dad has all of them pack clothes and a few toys to keep Hailey occupied. The youngest son CJ who is thirteen is describing all of the events of his youngest sister Hailey, and his parents. After they make their appearance CJ's grandparents and his aunt Laura head out for the family cabin in the woods. CJ's family is soon to follow. The second vehicle is not without an incident. Casualties soon happen, and they head out to get to the cabin. His uncle Josh is to join them later. Without giving too many details the author keeps the story flowing smoothly, and CJ becomes a man at such a young age. I guess I am hooked about the earlier released story A New Death, and I plan to read to catch the rest of the story back drop. Although I have read many stories in this universe, I did like the writer's clear and easy prose that makes the story easy to follow. Stories have to be entertaining, and this one was to no doubt by this reader. There is a preview of the main novel, A New Death along with the CJ's short story to give another glimpse of his family in the Zombie world. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2014 )

- 4.0 out of 5 stars from vinnieg -- A NEW DEATH : C J' s Story by Josh Vasquez : The author, Vasquez, begins the tale of a family suddenly aware there is a problem with zombies. This first installment was quite short, the author giving the reader a taste of what the New Death series may lead. With that in mind, I tend to presume this series will suit teenagers well, which I was quite imaginative. Most zombie apocalypse tales seem to be more aimed at mature readers. This is actually quite refreshing allowing younger readers the opportunity to read a God and scary zombie story. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2015 )

- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Don Kidwell -- Zombie Mayhem the Whole Family Can Engage In! : Join CJ, his parents, sis, grandparents, aunt (and maybe uncle) as they fight their way out of town and into the backwoods of Georgia to escape the oncoming Zombie apocalypse. Told through the eyes of a young 13-year old, this is the first Undead book I've read where an entire family is involved and makes for some very scary sequences. I will be purchasing a few more of his books today and I hope that he continues to impress and entertain me. Still gave the book 5 stars thought because I did really enjoy it although the disappointment that the book was so short. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes zombie books. The pace is good and the characters are easily identifiable despite the readily available arsenal of weapons which many US books of this type suffer from. A good read and im eager for more.
